HDFR 5

Georgia rule:

First of all, I don't think Lindz-Lo didn't wear a bra the entire movie but surprisingly enough there were no "accidents" haha! I credit that to good editing lol! Anyway, the movie is about this chick who is pretty much f'd in the head and she gets shipped off to her Grandmother's house. Anyway, Granny don't take no lip and sets her straight as this little slutty city girl tries to make her life something better. As it turns out her stepdad is a piece of shot but really rich and her mom is about as mental as they come. Anyway, it was a pretty decent movie. Not much of a chick flick. I thought it was going to be a "girl goes to granny's and finds a cute boy" blah blah blah but it was not like that at all!

After the Wedding:

Another foreign movie about a guy who pretty much lives a life of traveling around and jumping from good idea to good idea. He finally finds his niche and starts an orphanage in India and then gets an investor to help him out with the funds. As it turns out the investor is the step-father of this guy's real daughter that he didn't even know existed! Anyway, this guy's world is turned upside down as he now realizes he has more of a life than he ever knew. I liked this movie but didn't really like the ending so that kept it from being higher even though I thought the rest was interesting and unique. More subtitles though but very good.

Futurama: Bender's Big Score:

I love Futurama! very underrated tv show and probably my favorite adult cartoon of all time (yes, even over The Simpsons) but nothing against the others it's just my personal favorite. So of course, I'm biased... but this was def an excellent example of a movie sticking with what they know best and running with it. All the jokes were well thought out as well as the plot and twists and use of all regular and 2ndary characters. Anyway, I would have to say this was a great movie for fans of Futurama and if you aren't familiar with Futurama this would be a great way to get started!

the Nomad: For some reason this movie poster seemed to jump out at me as like a "300" knock off or something like this but it wasn't nearly the movie that I was expecting. I was expecting like a Braveheart/300/epic movie and it kind of was just in like a Spanish/Asian sort of way. I think it was like Middle Eastern but the main guys were like Spanish and American looking as well as the others seemed Asain... I'm still not really sure where it was supposed to be but I digress... The movie had some pretty stupid but interesting fight scenes and the love story was pretty lame as well. Add to the fact that it was pretty slow moving and all in subtitles it pretty much lost me after 30 mins or so.

Trailer park boys sesaon 3: Same as the others... just awesome!

The Darwin Awards: Interesting take on the "Darwin awards" theory. Very clever movie. Lots of interesting characters and full of some pretty funny dialogs and scenes. The plot was easy to follow and I enjoyed it but that's probably b/c it was more on the "Stupid side" of funny. Winona Ryder seems to be a staple in these weird/funny movies now-a-days but I thought the movie was interesting and good. I would probably watch it again if given the chance.

Ace Ventura: when nature calls

Have I mentioned before that I love these movies? I"m still not sure which one I like better ? I think I like the 2nd better for the plot but the 1st has more one liners and funny moments but I tend to quote the 2nd a lot as well... So basically, if you haven't seen this movie, see it immediately and then you'll be in the loop. ain't that right Ace?

Animal 2:

I didn't even know they made an Animal 1? well, unless you count that one with Rob Schnider right? but that's not teh same type of movie AT ALL! This one had Vinhg Raymes (SP?) and was about this dude who was in prison and fighting for his life while his sons are on the outside trying to make a living wihtout falling into the wrong crowd. Interesting movie to watch. It seemed to fit together nicely but wasn't very believable on the Lawyer movie part of it. The rest was pretty easy to follow and the fights weren't too unbelievable (for a movie)

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif and a half

Sex and Lucia:

I think it's a pretty fair assessment to say that in Europe they are lot more open and have less stipulations about sex and the portrayal of sex in movies. This was pretty much a porn with a good plot. It had just about everything they can show in a movie without actually being a porn I guess. Basically it was a story aobut this chick who seems to be pretty horny and she has a one night stand with a dude who she really falls in love with and they are both pretty messed up in the head. The guy is a writer and the girl (Lucia) is caught up between the story he is writing and her own life. In the mean time in the movie, everyone does everyone and everyone doesn't get an STD (that we know of)

HDFR 2

Here's your 2nd installment of the new HigherDef Flix Reviews!!

Trailer Park Boys Season 2: If I haven't already mentioned before... this show is awesome! season 2 really gets into the funnier stuff. Better character development and stories... lots of good individual plots with better stories than season 1. No further review needed. Canada finally got it right with this one! more TPB reviews to come and they'll all be about the same!

Premonition: Here's another one of those time travel/ future seeing movies. I'm not really a fan of these movies in general b/c they all seem to be about the same. The one person can either control (or thinks they can control the future/past) but in all reality they can't. In good movies they discover they can't or effect it so that whatever was supposed to happen will already happen and then everyone is disappointed b/c it wasn't really that big of a twist... in bad movies they'll do stuff that's impossible and that really annoys me b/c i don't like "real" movies with impossible twists. Sci-fi movies are one thing but "realistic" movies with stupid twists are another. This was a decent story but it wasn't that great. I thought the story was pretty anti-climatic and the characters were pretty un-interesting. If you have nothing better to watch you could watch this one, otherwise, take a pass.

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif

American Beauty: Another best picture winner and movie taken from my personal collection. Here's another movie that is just as good the 5th time around as it was the 1st time. Not really as surprised at the ending (obviously) but still a great story that really motivates me more than others. I really think people would be better off if they just did what made them happiest and stopped worrying about what everyone else thought. I try to live my life like this and think I'm a lot less stressed than others b/c they only seem to care about money all the time. Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to make a living doing what I love best too.

And now! I proudly present! HDFR 1

After weeks of anticipation!....

drum roll please!!

shoeless/idea.gif

The first ever HigherDef Flix Reviews!! or HDFR!

Now I know you are asking yourself "Why? Why the name change?"

Well, let me tell you. Blockbuster is not very good. They are trying to weasel money out of everyone in the world so I decided to fight back and canceled and switched to Netflix instead. Anyway, In the less than a month that I've been more than pleased about their service compared to Blockbuster so without further ado....

The Ten: As part of Netflix, one of the options they have is "unlimited movie downloads". Now this is a great deal except they don't offer this for Mac owners (yet), but thankfully I still have an old PC so for my first movie I watched one on my computer. Surprisingly, the quality wasn't that bad and actually quite bearable. So I ended up choosing this movie b/c it was one of the few that was on the "watch now" list that I had and so I did...

The Ten was a movie based on the 10 Commandments but not exactly. It was a set of stories that went together that, in a way, were related to the commandments. As a whole I wasn't that pleased with this movie. It started out on point and the 1st couple of "commandments" were funny and clever and interesting, and then (it seemed) to just turn into a movie and I seemed to lose interest as well. There were about 4 of 10 interesting stories and 3 or so that were "ok" the other 3 were terrible.

So let's see that makes it 4/10 plus 3 minus 3.. aww screw it!!

Trailer park boys season 1: Have you seen this show before? If you haven't go see it. But don't go to blockbuster b/c you won't find it there though. You might even have to go to Canada though b/c that's where these boys hail from. Very good show! Excellent even! I have seen this show before but the 2nd time around was no less funny or interesting.

The Return to the House on Haunted Hill: Honestly, I didn't have a high expectation for this movie. Also, I didn't really have a high desire to see this movie either but on my Blockbuster List... it was a "very long wait" movie in my que for weeks (probably months), so I shot it up to the top of Netflix as a "test" and sure enough, it's there within a day or so. So needless to say I will continue to bash the idiots of Blockbuster and praise the folks at NetFlix. On to the review!

The movie wasn't really that great, it was actually about as good as the original but with a little more plot (can you believe it?). I think the first was just stupid and the 2nd at least had some stories in it that, while out there, were pretty funny/interesting. There also were a couple of good death scenes.

SAR 80 and final one of the SAR series!

This is my last batch of the movies from the Blockbuster total access plan. If you didn't already know, blockbuster blows and i will no longer give them my business after all the crap I've been through in the last couple of months (long story short... they raised my prices twice, slowed down the delivery of their dvds, and became dicks at the store go figure shoeless/clueless.gif).
I've since switched to Netflix and in less than 3 weeks and already more satisfied than i was in 6 months with Blockterds!

Moving forward to the reviews!!

Fool's Gold: Ok so this one wasn't out on DVD yet and we had to go see it in the theaters ha! We actually went on Valentine's day how romantic huh? shoeless/rofll.gif Anyway, I was surprised by this movie. When I saw the previews I was thinking to myself "oh dear Lord! another chick flick! no way i'll enjoy this one" well, it turns out it's more of a treasure hunting movie than a chick flick love story so I'd have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif

The Mormons: PBS documentary about the rise of mormonism into the world and America. Here's how I remember it. Dude gets a visit from God. God tells him that every Christian religion is wrong. God says, here's the right one. Mormonism is born. Then the dude who got visited and his people go through a lot of crap for their beliefs. The people going through it take an "exodus" to Utah. They are in Utah now and a lot of people died to get there. They believe their journey was b/c of God and the struggles to get there were part of it. Then one guy starts this multiple wife thing b/c of his beliefs in the old testiment. Then everyone wants to be a mormon b/c of the multiple wives. Mormons are like "hey, no... ummm ... that's not what we believe" but then everyone is like "yay, lots of sex with women" and the mormons are like "oh dear Lord, what have we done?" and then they had to try and explain they weren't like that.

See I just saved you 5 hours of your life.

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif and a half

Avenue Montaigne: Foreign movie set in Paris. Plot summed up for stupid people: Girl moves to paris from some BFE town and gets job at restaurant that was male only until she is hired. Restaurant is famous locally and internationally for having lots of celebrities eat there. Restaurant is right across street from famous theater and music theater. Girl gets networked into all these famous people b/c she delivers food to them on foot (b/c it's in walking distance remember). Girl gets caught up with multi-character plot with actress, musician, old dude (and son), and some old hoe that owns the theaters. She sleeps where ever she can (b/c she's broke and just moved there) and then the movie ends all happy. Typical.

Martian kid: Guy is a writer. His wife dies in the process of adopting a kid. Guy still gets kid. Kid is wacked out. Needs a good home. Guy gives kid good home. Good movie. Check it out.

Mr. woodcock: I'm not really a fan of these whipping boy types of movies usually. I mean the only one I really like... ever is There's something about mary. The rest are just terrible and over done. At least this one didn't star Ben Stiller. So some kid who got picked on by a gym teacher grows up to become famous self-help author. He doesn't get laid much and is given the key to his old town or something and so he goes home and finds this starfish of a guy banging his mom and for some reason doesn't kill him on the spot and then there's this long @$$ movie and then it ends. I wasn't really thrilled with this whipping boy type of movie either.

3:10 to Yuma: Western! yeah baby, get out your sturrips and assless chaps! you @$$ is in for the ride of your life!! shoeless/country.gif So here's the plot. Dude is an outlaw. Robs a "stage coach" or some shot and then he and his gang of merrymen kill everyone. Dude and his kids witness it and are like "we didn't see shot" and the gang of merrymen are like "you dead mofos" then outlaw lets guy and kids go and then they skip town except they go to the town instead like a bunch of dumbasses who really should have skipped town. Then dude with his kids go to town later and find dumbass outlaw at a salon and are like "hey! you are that outlaw starfish dumbass" and he's like "whaaa???" then the cops come and arrest him, but that's just the beginning. Then there's this long @$$ voyage to take the dumbass outlaw to the town of "Yuma" *wink wink* and then... as it turns out. The dude with the kids, is out of money and land and everyone is against him and he needs money too! plot twist! yay! then there's like 100 killing scenes and about everyone dies... like a western is supposed to be.
