SAR 79 (6 movies this time)

Gonna speed through these next 12 quickly, 6 in SAR... 79 6 in SAR 80, so we can get on to the new hottness! (end of SAR beginning of HighDeFLIX Reviews or HDFlixR)

The astronaut farmer: So I thought this was a true story b/c of the previews and then I was like... I do'nt remember this happening so about half way through the movie I realized it wasn't real so then I changed my mindset for the movie. I still wasn' that impressed. Billy-Bob doesn't exactly scream "awesome movie" to me.

Factory girl: Some people are screw ups and some people are evil. And sometimes people become screw ups bc of evil people. Factory girl seemed like the last. Very weird flick. Andy Warhol "creates" a movie star and then she cracks out and fails miserably in life. By the time she gets it back together it's too late and Andy is still a creepy weird dude with seemingly no soul. I'm not really sure what to say about this movie except it was weird... and I like weird... sometimes.

The host: Asian movie dubbed into English. So after I got over my laugher and tried to enjoy the movie it was about 20 mins in and I was pretty lost. Basic plot: people pollute and it creates a mutated monster in Japan or something (no this wasn't a godzilla movie, but it was close). Overall it was not a bad movie, great special effects and the dubbed language wasn't as bad as you'd expect. However, the movie was WAY too long and i lost interest a couple of times and wanted to FFwd but ended up dragging my way through it.

One flew over the coo-koo's nest: Sometimes I dive back into my old DVD collection to watch movies and this one is the case. Great movie. Great story. Interesting on all levels and I could watch this movie more often then I could watch new ones sometimes. If you haven't seen this movie, you should. It won best picture (years ago) and deservedly so.

The comebacks: spoof of sports movies and it hit it dead on. Much funnier than I expected. I thought it was going ot be terrible and stpuid and it was stupid but in a good way. I enjoyed this more than some of the real sports movies that are out there it seems haha.

Sweet land: independent movie about a guy in early 1900s america who gets a mail order bride type thing and his wife is shipped to him and she doesn't speak much english. She wants to love him and vice versa but the church won't let them get married and they think she's a spy or commy b/c she's from Germany. Anyway, they have struggles and it's interesting to watch as they try to survive by working a farm. I liked this movie alright. Pretty interesting and good cinematography .

SAR 78 (5 more movies)

Driving lessons:

Artsy movie about a kid who is pretty much a loser (played by that red headed guy in the harry potter movies, Ron). He has a messed up home life and is really quiet. Then you also have his lack of a personal life which leads him to taking a job with this old actor lady who is all washed up and crazy and needs help around the house. In the process the old lady helps him become more "himself" and they strike up a friendship even though the loser's home life is falling apart more. Anyway, good movie. I like these types of movies and thought it was funny enough and interesting enough to keep my attention.

Chronicles of Narnia: TLW&W...

I have seen this before but we re-watched it again b/c Clueless wanted to. Anyway, it was just as funny as it was the first time around... and I don't think it's supposed to be a comedy right? Anyway, children actors can't really be that great or they'll grow up to be messed up losers but these kids weren't exactly winning oscars and turning heads either. So, it was the same cheesy movie that I saw 3 years ago but i didn't enjoy it as much the 2nd time around either b/c... well, it just wasn't that good after 3 years. I'm hoping the 2nd one will be better than first but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif and a half

Ace Ventura:

Well, after watching crap... I needed a change of pace. So Clueless hadn't seen Ace Ventura yet (for some God awful reason) so I made her watch it... so she'll have to give you a review for it b/c I think it's a great movie!

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif

Fear and loathing in Las Vegas:

Again... Clueless hadn't seen it yet so I made her watch it. Classic movie that is messed up on just about every level possible but Johnny Depp is awesome and the only reason I don't give this movie 5 rockers is that Spiderman is in this movie and I could have done without that.

Puccini for Beginners:

Another chick flick but weird. Puccini is an opera right? well, they only went to one in teh whole movie and tehy didn't even show it in teh movie. Weird movie. Love triangle between 2 girls and 1 dude and the girls and dude are all sleeping around and breaking up and stuff like that... blah blah blah... chick flick.

SAR 77 (5 movies)

one of the last few SARs people... soon we'll have a name change to something that has no blockbuster reference ... maybe something with netflix or something... Shoeless Netflix reviews? doesn't really roll of the tongue does it? But in the mean time, I'll review 5 movies per SAR until I'm out of SARs and moved on up to the SNXS or something ...

Jesse Stone: Night Passage:

Did you guys know that Tom Sellick is still acting? me either. Well, he is and did a good job in this movie... if it were still the 80s. No knock on Tom, he did great except that this seemed like a low budget movie set up in BFE yankeeville and Tommy Boy is some ex cop who's become a police cheif in some little town there... do they even have little towns in the North? I don't konw I"m just a dumb southerner who ain't ne'er been out my out house to see indoors plumbing ya know? anyway, long story short, decent flick if you like the old police drama stuff that reallydoesn't have enough plot twists or money to keep up with today's fast paced movie style. Old people would love this movie, young peopel will want to ffwd and I don't really have much else to say about that.

Gray Matters:

Chick flick disguised as lesbian movie, but not the good kind of lesbian movie... but there was a great scene where Bridget Moynahan (sp?) and Heather Graham make out for like 20 secs but it's better to just go look up that scene online than watch the movie for it. Anyway, if you want to watch a chick flick this was a better one but its still just a chick flick. Had some funny moments but I don't care to watch it again.

Sunshine:

how in the world do I not know about these movies until I see them on the shelf? I mean this wasn't a dinky low-budget movie with nobody as actors... it wasn't a $100 mill blockbuster either but it wasn't some crappy sci-fi joint either. Decent plot set in the future and reminded me of event horizon from back in 1997 or something. I enjoyed this movie and wasn't tired of it when it was over. Special effects were very good and fairly realistic for today's standards of CGI everything.

Longford: True story based on a guy who really enjoyed helping prisoners... well.... get their lives together. Anyway this movie was based on a true story of a respected politician who stakes his name and career to campaign for a notorious serial killer. Very cool movie. Not exactly the best flow to it but i think that was in the European translation from Brit to US... I think we like movies that jump around and they like a more drawn out plot. Not a bad flick but a little slow during parts.

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif and a half

Miss Potter: Based on the true story of Beatrix Potter and her rise to becoming the best all-time selling female author or something like that. Anyway, another good movie that I really didn't like the ending but then again that's life right? I won't spoil it or anything but it just sux sometimes... that's all I'll say. I don't know if hte ending was made up or what was and wasn't true but part of the movie frustrated me and the rest was really good.

SAR 76

The Ghosts of Abu Gruaib:
Remember those people who got in trouble for the treatment of the iraqi prisoners back in 2003/2004? and they were taking pics of the prisoners naked and how they were making them doing messed up things? Well this was kind of the story about the guards who were busted for it and their excuses for what they did. Anyway, it was crazy what they put some of the people through but HBO made it seem as though the gov't is at fault for changing the laws about torchure methods in prisons and during warfare etc etc... anyway, I agree... let's blame the gov't and I feel bad for those prisoners who were kept unfairly and without reason. I don't blame them for their hate of Americans.

Blood and Chocolate:
This was like a weird @$$ werewolf movie that was also a love story. yeah, I guess that's all that needs to be said. I didn't think it was that great. Too sappy and not enough cool werewolf stuff, i mean they turned into dogs not like cool as man wolf things. Give me lots of creepy unrealistic stuff not dogs... come on people!!

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif

Balls of Fury:
It's as stupid as you'd expect. I enjoyed it for its stupidity. It was really stupid though. I think I'm stupider for having watched it.... great, now I feel stupid.

Norbit: So you might be asking yourself... why the funk did he watch this movie?

and I ask myself this same question every day...

Shoeless Rating: less than half of a shoeless/shoeless.gif ... it shouldn't even get this high but then again who can't help but laugh at eddie murphy who plays every role in every movie he plays ever... even the young kids, they're really eddie too.

The Boiler Room:
Another movie that was CLEARLY made before 9/11... in fact, before 9/11 it was probably a good movie but in teh post 9/11 era, it was just another 80s ripoff of a "hey, let's all get rich stockmarket" movie. Ahhhhh yes, those were the days, when women were fast and money came easy and if you lost it... ehh whatever, you'll get it back in 2 days with the right broker. yada yada yada...

The lookout:
This movie was a cross between a bank robbing movie and a mental case movie. I really liked it. The jist of the story is that this kid gets in a bad wreck and it changes his life... so much so that he can't really remember much and is taken advantage of by certain people and is felt sorry for by the others in his life that help him out. Anyway, as the story goes, teh wrong people catch wind of his difficulties and begin to take advantage of him (esp since he works at the local bank and is an inside man). I enjoyed this movie. I thought it was cool and flowed well. I think the story had a few flaws but for the most part it was very well written and the actors were better than good. I'm not really sure what else to say but I liked it but will probably forget it in a few years lol

Shoeless Rating: shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif shoeless/shoeless.gif

Spygame: I think this was one of those "last of its kind" movies for a while. It was made right before 9/11 in 2001 and it, for the most part, showed. Now don't get me wrong it wasn't a bad movie but it dealt with spies and the CIA in a way the in the post 9/11 America probably would have never been written. I think Brad Pitt is an excellent actor as well as Robert Redfearn (sp?) but as for the timing of this movie... it probably doomed it before it began.

Resident Evil, Extinction: 3rd installment of the resident evil movies and it was about as good as the first. I really wasn't a fan of the 2nd and never thought they'd make a 3rd one but was kind of glad they did. It brought back the original spirit of hte movie and might have been a little more "out-there" than the 1st two but i think that tied in the original spirit better than the second. So what the hell am I trying to get at??? 1st one = great, 2nd one = yawn, 3rd one = ok
