What's the deal with the nets in football?
You know... those nets behind the uprights on FGs and PATs?
Is there that really of a stealing problem in America that they have to put up a big net to catch the footballs that go into the stands? I mean... I've seen the fans who go to NFL games and they are pretty much the most hideous looking people possibly in the nation but I would still like to think that even THEY could have the decency to return a football kicked into the stands.
Seriously people, is there a giant black hole that the ball might go into if it's not funneled back onto the field?
What happens to the balls that make it over the net? I think they must either turn into lethal projectiles that kill without warning or something the way they shoot those nets up so quickly before a FG.
Come on people! Give the guys in rows A-AA in the endzone something to enjoy b/c you sure as heck can't see anything else from those seats.
Now, putting nets up for NFL games is one thing b/c a kicker might want it back to give out his 325th consecutive PAT ball to Uncle Cletus at Christmas b/c he's too dang cheap to buy him a cheese gift certificate! But, putting up nets in college is just absurd!
Being a overrated fan, I can tell you that I'm proud that overrated still doesn't have nets and if they ever put them up I'll formally write a letter (and blog) to complain about it, but hopefully that won't happen, but I digress. So I'm watching ESPN on a Tues night and I noticed that the B team Trailbunnies are playing a tough W.T.F. conference game @ the Middle Tulsa State Terriors and they've got this big net up behind the uprights and I thought to myself... "why the hell do they have those there? I mean it can't be b/c they think a fan is gonna steal it b/c there's only 3 in the endzone and 2 of them are asleep!"
I really don't understand it and never will. It just goes to show you what football is turning into and the state of this country when you can't trust anyone with ANYTHING anymore.
I blame the gov't!
